Duck Dynasty Debate?

Image

I have my own opinions on this topic, but I thought I would first see what you had to think. Feel free to respond by answering some or all of the following questions:

  1. Do you think the news accurately showed what Phil Robertson said in his GQ interview?
  2. Is it wrong for Phil to believe that homosexuality is wrong?
  3. Do you think (if the news is correct) that Phil could have responded in a better way?
  4. Do you think that Phil is standing up for what’s right or giving Christian’s a bad image?
  5. Is it possible to stand up for your beliefs and not offend those who disagree?
  6. Do you think the rest of the Duck Dynasty cast will step down if they don’t let Phil back on the show?

Please feel free to share your opinions! I really am dying to know your thoughts.

Love to Love,

Christie

  1. I was talking to my husband about this earlier and my example was… I don’t believe in mediums and tlc has a show called the Long Island medium. I enjoy watching a lot of shows that tlc puts on but as I said I don’t believe in mediums so I choose not to watch that show. So instead of complaining about the shows the tlc decides to put on Their channel…I simply just don’t watch the shows I don’t agree with or just don’t want to watch. I realize everyone has different opinions on right and wrong and I am not scared to tell others what I believe but I also don’t think you dont get anywhere forcing your opinions on others. So my feelings are … Everyone in the whole world is never going to agree on what beliefs are right and which are wrong. Don’t associate or watch if you don’t agree . I think Phil should be allowed on A&E and maybe if they feel so strongly about his beliefs they could just provide a disclaimer stating that the beliefs on the show aren’t nessicarily the beliefs of A&E . Just MY opinion though πŸ™‚

  2. I’m so proud of Phil Robertson! Did anyone really expect Phil, a man who admitted to his own sins and wrong doings in his past, let any other sin off the hook? Phil Robertson stood against the crowd in a time where people get so easily offended and for no reason because he never mentioned hating anyone, just simply stating his preference. Satan wants for those who chose to live OF this world to be easily offended so he can try hard to destroy any good thats IN the world. I do think Phil could have been less descriptive, but then again, sex and the male and female parts have not been left to the imagination in quite some time thanks to our young corrupt pop stars. Thanks MTV awards for that quick porn show! Just kidding, I don’t watch that filth.

I completely stand with Mr. Robertson and I know I will be praying for the Robertson family and the decision that they now face.

    • I really love how you stated that he admitted his own sins as well. That is a really great point! I do agree that he could have been less descriptive. The world is way more descriptive than him…

  3. I don’t watch the program but he has the right to his own opinion and free speech. A&E should reconsider their decision. The Holy Bible is against anything sexual except between a married man and woman. Had the question been about adultery or pre-marriage sex, he would have probably said the same thing with just a different subject, and I doubt there would have been a consequence.

    • I completely agree. People seem to think its all about hating gays when in all reality its about refraining from all sexual immorality. God stated in the Bible what is considered sexual immorality. He would say the same thing about pre-marital sex.

  4. Here’s my thoughts on this topic. These are only my opinions so take them for what they’re worth πŸ™‚

Do you think the news accurately showed what Phil Robertson said in his GQ interview?
–I think the media always takes their own spin on it. I read a few articles about the interview then read the quotes and it didn’t match up. However, most people who watch the show or know about it know they’re Christian so that view shouldn’t surprise people. The Bible is clear is what it states but of course people interpret this many ways.

Is it wrong for Phil to believe that homosexuality is wrong?
–I don’t think it’s right or wrong, it’s his beliefs and his opinion, I think he has a right to them whatever they may be. I think what gets lost is a good, solid debate instead of pointing fingers and calling people backwards, bigoted or hateful because of a view they hold. If he is using the Bible to back up his view, then the Bible is clear on what it states but I don’t believe we should hate people for living differently. We all fall short and sin, it’s not for us to call it out in someone else when we live in sin too (in different ways). However, the Constitution affords everyone a right to their beliefs and opinions so long as it doesn’t hurt someone else.

Do you think (if the news is correct) that Phil could have responded in a better way?
–He probably could have, but he is also older and lots of older people I know are very unapologetic because they don’t believe they should have to change who they are for any one. They tell me, with age comes more confidence in your beliefs and who you are, for good or bad. This doesn’t mean he couldn’t be enlightened further about homosexuals. It’s possible he holds beliefs without ever having met anyone who lives that lifestyle and it is judgmental but we all have judgments and we shouldn’t be judging others so much when we ourselves have things we do that may be judged right back. Finger wagging doesn’t create conversation or build bridges, even if we just agree to disagree.

Do you think that Phil is standing up for what’s right or giving Christian’s a bad image?
–He is who he is. I don’t think he gives anyone a bad image, he may hold beliefs that some Christians agree with and others don’t. I believe Christ loves everyone regardless of who they are so if we start with that focus then we have a good conversation going. πŸ™‚

Is it possible to stand up for your beliefs and not offend those who disagree?
–Lots of offense comes from fear or self consciousness at being challenged in your beliefs. We should always, I believe, seek to learn, grow and become better listeners more than judgers. There are many people in the world with many belief systems and ways of viewing the world. Someone will most likely be offended but the key is to learn how to listen and build conversational bridges, not try to tear each other down.

Do you think the rest of the Duck Dynasty cast will step down if they don’t let Phil back on the show?
–I’ve only seen a few episodes, it doesn’t really interest me that much. I honestly don’t care one way or the other if they do but I don’t think we should vilify Phil or the rest of the crew. If anything, let’s extend an olive branch and have a conversation instead of getting high and mighty and ask for resignations. If they choose to do it, then so be it. That’s their choice.

  5. I believe the world has lost tolerance…tolerance of those who don’t believe the same things.. We are standing up for many of the wrong things.. Or not standing up at all,,,but whoever is sitting or standing up has the right to believe their reasons of why….tolerance and love is also what the bible teaches..
    John 13:34-35
    New International Version (NIV)
34 β€œA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Doesn’t say love them only if they are like you or believe the same.. It states just LOVE ❀️❀️❀️
